Looking to buy a great secondhand upright piano with character? You should check out our latest trio of British made upright pianos, from three very respected names: Broadwood, Kemble and Welmar. They have just come into our showroom and all come with free ground floor delivery to any mainland UK address, and a first free tuning.
John Broadwood have a very long history and can safely claim to be the oldest piano manufacturer in Britain. They now make very few pianos, but even until recently they were producing in reasonable numbers some quality pianos. This Stratford model was manufactured in 1996, and the action is immaculate. With its large cabinet it produces some real volume, and the bass register in particular has good depth. The overall tone is a classic warm Broadwood tone, but with resonance to avoid any muddy sounds. This is a great buy and will serve pianist of all levels.
Kemble is another British manufacturer well respected in the piano industry. The ceased production relatively recently, but even the older models from 1970’s onward are recognised for their solid construction and ability to weather any changes in temperature. This piano was manufactured in 1987. The majority of Kemble pianos we showcase are compact uprights, but this is an unusually large cabinet piano from Kemble. The result is quite wonderful, a really big and resonant tone, with chiming bass notes. The action is a responsive medium touch, and players will appreciate looking inside the action to see how little wear there is overall. A very competitive price for a great piano!
This is a very stylish looking piano from Welmar, manufactured in 1986. The satin mahogany finish with natural grain and rose type carvings at the corners make this a very attractive piano to buy. If you are someone who tires of the endless shiny black box look of modern pianos, this is definitely for you. Of course, looks are not everything! The tone is typically warm as with many Welmar pianos, and the treble notes are nicely rounded without the tinniness you might expect from a more compact piano. Come and check this piano out in person and hear for yourself!
