At The Piano Shop Bath we really are spoilt for choice when it comes to live music opportunities, last week we looked at the Melvyn Tan master class at The Wiltshire Music centre, this week we take note of Wells Cathedral School and all it has to offer. There are a couple of upcoming concerts taking place at this beautiful venue in Wells over the next few months that should provide plenty of inspiration for pianists of all ages.
Piano Masters 4: Misuko Uchida – Friday 12th May at 7.00pm
Legendary pianist Mitsuko Uchida brings unrivalled insight to music through her lifelong quest for truth and beauty expressed in sound. Here she sets a best-loved Mozart sonata against two Schumann masterpieces: Kreisleriana, a work by turns turbulent, demonic and mischievous, and the Fantasie, an immense love song to the composer’s future wife, Clara Wieck.
Tickets are from £17, but free for 25s and under. Tickets are available online using the link below.
Piano Masters 5: Yevgeny Sudbin – Thursday 8th June at 7.00pm
Playing Scarlatti is a core part of every Russian pianist’s training, and Yevgeny Sudbin’s new CD of the sonatas garnered rave reviews for its intense mixture of purity and colour. His Wells recital also includes jaw-dropping virtuosity from Medtner plus quintessential Russian works by Tchaikovsky and Scriabin’s Vers la Flamme. Sudbin’s focused brilliance shows that fire can blaze cold as well as hot.
Tickets are from £14 but free for 25s and under. Tickets are available online using the link below.
