At first the range of piano options available can seem a little overwhelming, use our quick guide to familiarise yourself with three of Kawai’s most popular upright pianos.
The Kawai K15E
This is Kawai’s entry level upright acoustic piano. If you are looking for a great quality upright piano to get a younger child started with piano lessons, or returning to the piano as an adult this is an excellent choice. The cabinet is black polished ebony and the dimensions are compact and practical. From an aesthetic perspective the Kawai K15E is a smart and stylish upright piano. The price point makes it a very accessible purchase and good value when compared with other upright pianos that are aimed at a similar market. Without exception the Kawai K15E pianos that come through our showroom always sound great and play very nicely. It may be Kawai’s smallest acoustic piano but you still get the classic mellow Kawai tone and consistent action. The K15E lacks the dynamic capability of a larger piano but that is only to be expected, for those who do not want or need a hugely powerful acoustic piano for domestic use the K15E ticks all the right boxes. For anyone looking for a new upright piano within a 3k budget this model comes highly recommended.
The Kawai K200
This 114cm traditional upright pianos is one of Kawai’s bestselling models. The K200 offers durability, reliability, and quality that are hard to beat at this price point. The traditional cabinet features some elegant design touches and many people fall for its understated simplicity. The longer music desk and soft closing lid are also popular features, and especially good for younger aspiring pianists! The Kawai K200 features the millennium three action, this is a fusion of traditional wood with strong and light ABS carbon parts. The millennium three action provides a very responsive and enjoyable playing experience. The parts used in the K200 are premium quality, from the double felted mahogany core hammers to the solid spruce soundboard, this is a well put together piano. The tone is clear and warm, with a lovely power to the bass. Overall this is an extremely good value piano and the finished result is an inspiring instrument with a welcoming feel.
The Kawai K500
The Kawai K500 is a high end upright piano, popular with teachers, serious pianists and those who are looking for an upright piano with a grand piano feel. The 130cm tall K500 packs a powerful punch, the height allowing for longer strings and a larger soundboard. This helps to explain the dynamic capacity of this upright piano as well as its impressive tonal depth. The bass notes have a satisfying growl while the treble on this piano really sings. The shimmering tones in the treble in particular compare extremely favourably with other pianos that are twice the price of this Japanese made upright from Kawai. The duplex scaling in the upper registers, alongside the ergonomically designed neotex key surfaces leave no doubt that this is a serious musical offering from Kawai. It is no wonder that many Kawai instruments are in use in such places as The Royal College of Music, the Yehudi Menuhin school, Purcell school for young musicians and are also used by many acts on stage, perhaps most famously, by coldplay.
