On July 27th, as part of the long-established Three Choirs Festival, The Three Choirs Festival Chorus are joined by the Philharmonia Orchestra in Gloucester Cathedral in a gala evening of British, Finnish and Russian music under the baton of legendary Russian pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Ashkenazy. The programme includes Alassio, from Edward Elgar’s In the South, Luonnatar, Sibelius’ lesser-known tone poem for soprano and orchestra premiered at the Three Choirs Festival 100 years ago, and Rachmaninoff’s titanic masterwork The Bells, for choir and orchestra. This evening promises to be an unmissable event, and a rare opportunity to see Ashkenazy conduct in the South West.
