For this project our team created a stand-out piano for a glass conservatory – they wanted to bring the outside ‘in’ with a piece that embraced nature, colour and diversity. Colour and pattern ideas for this piano were inspired by the imagery and jungle scenes in the paintings of the French post impressionist artist Henri Rousseau. Rousseau’s primitive, naïve style of work has been translated into a highly decorative and textured surface design that uses many craft techniques from knitting to embroidery, felting and appliqué.
THE JUNGLE PIANO

Large pieces of machine knitted lambswool were washed to give a soft felted effect before being applied to the surface of the piano. The imagery of foliage and the lion were created with machine knit fabrics cut into shapes to collage and stitch on top of the base fabric.

The overall effect is one with great depth of colour and texture, making this piano interactive in more ways than one. If you wold like to commission your own unique design piano to suit any space, please get in touch.
