Here at the Piano Shop Bath we have a very special instrument in our showroom, the Steinway Model B. The design of the Model B has been unchanged since Steinway & Sons first unveiled it in April 1878 and it continues to be their best selling piano. Our Model B is a restored 1901 model, in a highly desirable french polished rosewood case. The action and resulting tone are quite exceptional.
Countless professionals have chosen the Steinway Model B and some contemporary examples include Mitsuko Uchida, András Schiff and Imogen Cooper, all who apparently own a Model B.
The Telegraph newspaper recently featured an excellent article on the Model B, with a short film taking you behind the scenes at Steinway & Sons’ workshop in Hamburg. Here you get a glimpse of the painstaking workmanship that goes into each handcrafted Steinway Model B.
Each Model B takes over 12 months and more than 50 craftsmen to complete, and is constructed from over 12,000 parts. Once assembled, numerous hours are spent tuning, voicing and regulating the piano to achieve that consistency of tone that artists around the world rely on come concert time.
A brand new black gloss Steinway Model B will set you back £72,150, but our model here at the Piano Shop Bath is a fraction of the cost. Price on asking, please do come down to the showroom and have a go for yourself; hear what all the fuss is about and enjoy one of the pinnacles in piano craftsmanship.
