On April 21st, Angela Hewitt, one of Britain’s best-known classical pianists, takes to the stage of Birmingham’s spectacular Classical-style Town Hall for a concert mixing late works by Bach with a late work by Beethoven: his Sonata No. 31 in A Flat Major. Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue and his Art of Fugue (Contrapunctus XI to XIII; 4 Canons; Contrapunctus XIV) complete the programme. Both Bach and Beethoven were masters of the keyboard, and only a concert artist with Hewitt’s pedigree could attempt this concert’s programme.
