We were saddened to hear recently that the Cheltenham Piano Shop is set to close after 50 years. A profitable and thriving musical instrument retailer, the owners have decided to shut the doors to pursue personal musical interests. The iconic shop, serving the Cotswolds, has sold a large range of instruments in addition to pianos, including ukuleles, woodwind instruments, brass and strings.
The thriving music scene in Cheltenham (considered the cultural centre of the Cotswolds) makes the closure of the shop all the more surprising. The Cheltenham Festival has been running since 1945 and has had more than 2,500 of the world’s finest performers grace the city’s stages. Highlights of this year’s upcoming music event, which runs from 30 June – 11 July, include Edward Gardner, Marc-André Hamelin, Sarah Connolly, Alina Ibragimova and The King’s Singers.
This year’s Wychwood Festival, held at the Cheltenham Racecourse in May, brings Ladysmith Black Mambazo, UB40 and The Proclaimers to Gloucestershire during this family-friendly festival.
Other musical events in Cheltenham include the Ukulele Festival of Great Britain, Midsummer Fiesta and regular events at venues across the city. At this February’s Folk Three (formerly the Cheltenham Folk Festival) the line-up boasted Eliza and Martin McCarthy and Seth Lakeman.
At The Piano Shop Bath we are regularly in Cheltenham and have found our piano tuning services to be very much in demand in this music hub. We have sold many upright and grand pianos all around Gloucestershire and our removal team are often found in this beautiful part of the country making deliveries and taking pianos for repair and restoration. We regularly hire both upright and grand pianos in Cheltenham and other parts of the South West for festivals, private events and functions.
Please get in touch on 01225 427961 or stop by to check out our selection of pianos.
