We always find baby grand pianos to popular and recently had the chance to see how the Chris Venables studio-152 compared to the Kawai GL10, here is our overview of the two baby grand piano models.
We recently received in part exchange a Chris Venables studio – 152 baby Grand piano. Measuring 5’x5′ the Chris Venables studio 152 is a classic baby grand sized piano. It was nice to experience one of these pianos first hand and as well as playing nicely it was also an attractive instrument. Our pianists found it to be a pleasant entry level baby grand piano, warm in tone but perhaps lacking some depth in the bass when compared alongside similar priced baby grands, like the Kawai GL 10. There is little doubt that the component parts of the Chris Venables baby Grand are of high quality and have been carefully selected (abel hammers and Austrian spruce soundboard for example) but in terms of overall build quality the Kawai GL10 remains a hard grand piano to beat, for the price point. There are reasons that Steinway choose Kawai to collaborate with on their Boston range and the consistent high quality of Kawai grand pianos has got to be one of them. Side by side it was wonderful to be given the chance to compare the Chris Venables baby grand with the Kawai GL10 but ultimately the Kawai baby grand remains our favourite and we still believe the kawai GL10 is very deserving of its reputation as one of the best baby grand pianos around.
