The GL50 Grand Piano is a recent addition to our piano showroom. Here we take a closer look at this 188cm grand piano, an instrument that is well placed for domestic use as well as in classrooms, studios and smaller venues.
Highly Responsive Action
The first thing that really struck me about this grand piano was how incredibly easy it was to play softly, the much sought after pianissimo playing that we used to spend hours trying to get right has just suddenly become that bit more straightforward. The GL50 has been so thoughtfully built that it really does make certain technical demands of piano playing just, well…easier, believe me when I say those Chopin left hand chords will never sound the same again (and that’s a good thing). This impressive achievement is made possible by Kawais design innovation and they attribute the ease of pianissimo playing on the GL series to their single part Carbon Jack (the part that connect the keys to the hammers), longer key length and the millennium iii action.
Tone
The quality of tone you get from this grand piano is stunning. Brilliance in the treble, richness and complexity in the bass. The dual duplex scaling really stands out on this grand piano as an addition that has added huge value. From the shimmering harmonics you get in the upper register to the growling intensity of the bass this is one satisfying piano to play. Other features that enhance the tone of this kawai grand piano include the solid spruce, tapered soundboard. Other important parts of the pianos build, like the hammers and bridge are also made from premium quality materials to very high specifications.
Overview
This is a highly impressive grand piano and one that offers outstanding value for money. I find it quite hard to imagine quite where else you would find a grand piano of this quality for a similar price from anywhere other than Kawai. There are certain times a manufacturer gets things spot on and the GL50 is a good example of excellence in piano design and production. For me, the GL50 is a beautiful illustration of how the smart use of technology and physics can enhance our ability to make art. A quality instrument, the GL50 should be an essential try by anyone who is on the lookout for a forever piano. For more information on the GL50 or any of our pianos call us on 01225 427961.
