Teaching Details
Hello.
I have a great passion for music and love to help others learn be they 7 or 70, into rock or the baroque.
For 25 years I was a secondary school head of music teaching across the 11-18 age range. I taught GCSE and A level as well as directing and arranging for ensembles. For the last 8 years I have been a peripatetic and private teacher. I have been a member of the BBC National chorus of Wales for well over a decade gaining wide experience of choral singing and repertoire.
I can ascertain what pupils need and to tailor lessons individually. Pupils should not be passive and are kept on their toes by focused questions and realistic goals. There is always a good pace to lessons and the time goes quickly. My belief is that one must teach music through the piano or voice or theory rather than solely instrument-specific skills; in other words, listening, composing, improvising and theory come into any lesson.
I regularly prepare pupils for ABRSM, TCL and LCM exams. I also support GCSE and A level pupils with aspects of those courses.
