I believe that everybody has the right to express themselves creatively. My students learn not only how to play music to a high standard, but how to discover a love for the instrument, music and learning too. My lessons are student-led; I build upon what the student is interested in learning. There is, after all, as much to be learnt – as much enjoyment to be gleaned – from riffing the chords to “Shape of You” as there is to learning the melody to “Für Elise”.
I take a holistic approach with my lessons, and theory is incorporated from the get-go. Students, especially my younger students, are encouraged to improvise through call-and-response and melody-making. In doing so, they begin to find their own voice, their own feel for the instrument, and a real sense of musicality. (Furthermore, improvisation then doesn’t seem so much of a scary thing further down the line!)
I have a love for teaching music theory and composition. I am available for theory grade tuition and Music GCSE tuition. I am happy to offer Skype lessons, too.
