Teaching Details

I am happy to engage with young or mature students who wish to explore alternative ways of learning the piano.

Many musicians get frustrated with conventional teaching methods, grades and exams, and just want to find their own way of expressing themselves. What I offer is chord-based teaching and an understanding of melody and chord flow. Very much ‘playing by ear’.

It’s not for everyone and it won’t leave you with a qualification or certificate. But, if it works for you, you will end up with a journey of fun and rewards. It may be that just some initial sessions are needed to ascertain whether this is the right route for you.

I have decades of experience playing in bands, playing solo piano, accompanying singers and choirs, directing musicals, writing my own compositions and getting to grips with music technology. I generally play popular music and  jazz standards.

I have created cinematic orchestral compositions in my well-equipped home studio where I would be happy to instruct students on the basics of sequencing and starting your own home studio. I use LogicProX.
