About the artist
Ian Johnson is an Oxford born artist currently based in the Midlands. Inspired through his walking and in particular his pilgrimages across northern Spain Ian has become interested in the way we see the world, he draws from the landscape, thinking of how we can map space and objects to see things differently. Using painting and sculpture he explores alternative views of the accepted image. Ian has become interested in setting instruction and allowing imperfections and happenstances to come out in his work, drawing parallels with hearing an instrument played live. The sheet music is the instruction, chords and bars symbols but add the human element of playing then something wonderful and unpredictable can happen. He allows materials to guide themselves to create organic forms within his work.
