About the artist
I am based in Somerset. I have an MFA (Bath Spa University). I exhibit throughout UK and internationally, and am a member of Royal Society of Sculptors.
I create mixed media assemblages, blurring boundaries between sculpture, drawing, and installation. I have a passion for nature rooted in the notion of life’s interconnectedness, cyclical persistence, transformation. I’m interested in tentacularity; the complex web of relationships from micro to macro. Materiality and process are key. My re-appropriation of recycled materials relates to waste, our relationship with matter, nature, and ourselves. Labour-intensive processes include weaving, wrapping, hand stitching, soldering, welding and casting.
Although my main form of expression is through visual art, I have collaborated with musicians, poets and dancers. Music has an amazing power to recall memories, and evoke deep emotions. Certain music takes me into a primal place, which I respond to physically through dance. I also love natural musical sounds of birds, crickets, water. I only reached grad II piano as a child, but loved playing duets with my Aunt.
