One of the most common questions we get asked is ‘when should I get my piano tuned?’ The simple answer is when your piano goes out of tune! But a piano actually needs regular tuning to maintain pitch and we recommend getting your piano tuned every 6 months. If you play piano to an advance level for several hours every day, or perhaps you are a piano teacher and your piano gets played regularly by your pupils, you may need to get your piano tuned more regularly. For most people, however, every 6 months will be sufficient.
As we enter the colder months of the year it is a good time to have your piano tuned and assessed. The change in season causes fluctuations in temperature and humidity, which nearly always has an impact on your piano’s tuning. We strongly recommend purchasing a hygrometer to monitor the humidity in your piano room, as getting the humidity levels consistent between 40–70% will greatly enhance your pianos longevity and overall tuning stability.
Our expert technicians will not only tune your piano, they can advise on how to best look after your piano as we progress from winter into spring. By getting the conditions right in your piano room and carefully maintaining it through regular tuning, your piano will have a longer life and continue to perform well every year.
