We have a Grotrian Steinweg Grand Piano in the workshop in Piano Shop Bath at the moment. This is a beautiful grand piano. The action is in really good condition and the piano plays with a great touch. I’m currently restringing it to get the best out of the piano and recreate that classic Grotrian tone. This picture is of the bass string rubbings. Each set of bass strings is individually matched and made bespoke for each piano. The rubbings are the only way to ensure the replacement strings are an exact replica of the originals. I will be replacing the strings, the bearing cloth underneath them and the washers because over time these parts wear out. I will then re-gild the frame to return it to it’s original lustre.
