Wiltshire has a rich musical heritage. Jazz pianist Jamie Cullum was raised in Chippenham, Wiltshire, as was singer/songwriter James Blunt. Eric Clapton and Madonna have lived in the county, as does Sting.
However, one of the most interesting musical connection to Wiltshire is perhaps that Daphne Oram (born Devizes, Wiltshire, 1935), composer and electronic music pioneer, was the founder of the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop. This sound effects unit produced a wealth of electronic sounds , including the Dr Who music and effects for The Goon Show.
Oram later left the BBC to set up Oramics Studios for Electronic Composition, where she developed her own technique to create electronic sound.
Our in-house piano technician has been busy working across Wiltshire this week, assessing a grand piano in Swindon and undertaking restoration work on a piano from Salisbury.
Whether it’s hiring a piano for a festival or event in Wiltshire, a wedding in Bradford on Avon or providing pianos to a school in Devises, we are often in our neighbouring Wiltshire.
