In these times of social distancing some musicians will struggle with not being able to collaborate with their fellows.
Other musicians may use their time to practise and improve and, for others, it is a time to start a new interest.
However, a developing musician needs a certain amount of solitude to hone skills and reach for creative flair.
Local singer-songwriter and pianist Will Lawton took a different, yet most original approach to this difficult time.
Will has had a long relationship with playing, performing and recording on Yamaha and Kawai instruments from The Piano Shop in Bath.
During the ‘lockdown’ period in April 2020, he was inspired by a poem which he was sent and set this to music, then called out on social media for contributions from poets of original poems spoken by themselves and written about this difficult time.
What he has composed and produced in April 2020 is an album of eight original pieces where each poem is embedded in original meditative piano and ambient soundscapes. The album captures this extraordinary time where, amongst the fear and anxiety, there is an unparalleled level of peace and stillness, never seen before in our lifetimes.
In early May 2020 a single track from the album was played each evening on BBC Radio Wiltshire.
