The Piano Shop Bath has proudly donated a brand new piano to Woodchester Endowed School in Stroud, Gloucestershire, providing a much needed update from their existing 100 year-old piano. Jon Kelly, owner of The Piano Shop Bath, oversaw delivery of the new piano to the school and was passionate about the need for pianos in schools.
“The piano is such a great instrument to have in the home and it is having such resurgence currently with artists like Emeli Sandé and Tokio Myers,” Jon explained.
“We wanted to donate the piano to the school as my son attends; lots of the school children have piano lessons and now they can practice on a fantastic, modern piano and learn a skill which they will hopefully keep for life.”
The school’s head teacher Lynn Pennington was also delighted with the piano and explained the importance of having a modern, new instrument at the school,
“We currently have 15 to 20 piano lessons per week on our old piano which is now over 100 years old. Having the benefit of the donated Yamaha piano will really encourage all pupils to engage with this wonderful instrument. I am really thankful to Jon and his team for this amazing gift.”
There is also a good ending for the 100 year-old school piano; rather than go to the scrap heap, the Woodchester piano will now have its parts recycled for future use in piano repairs.
