On April 12th, Cardiff’s St Davids Hall features Welsh pianist Llŷr Williams joining the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under the direction of Thomas Sondergard for a concert featuring Rachmaninoff’s titanic Third Piano Concerto, one of the most technically demanding pieces in the pianist’s repertoire, alongside Carl Nielsen’s Fifth Symphony. Llŷr Williams was awarded the Royal Academy of Music’s highest honour, the Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music, in 2000, and since leaving the Academy has performed at the Edinburgh International Festival, BBC Proms and at the Barbican Hall, and is renowned particularly for his Mozart. Rachmaninoff’s Third is a classic crowd-pleaser and virtuoso showcase, and complements Nielsen’s epic Fifth symphony perfectly.
