The Piano Shop Bath were proud once again to take part in the Great Bath Bake Sale. Following on from last year’s highly successful bake sale, Bath Abbey opened it’s doors to bakers from all over the city to raise funds for the Footprint project, Bath Foodcycle and FareShare South West. ‘Footprint’ is Bath Abbey’s appeal to save the historic floor of the Abbey from collapse. In addition to strengthening the Abbey’s floor, the appeal has wider plans to develop a visitor centre that can meet the needs of the growing number of tourists and the demands that places on a historic structure.
There were groups from local business, community groups and charities, all baking delicious treats for the public to buy. Last year, our stool featured iced buns and gingerbread quavers; this year the gingerbread quavers remained but were complimented by ‘musical chocolate flakes’ and savoury cheese cornbreads for the lunch hour. At the close of play by 3pm we had sold everything and had earned a well deserved cup of tea!
The Great Bath Bake Sale also featured a free bread-making workshop for children, as well as a raffle with food prizes. It was a very busy turnout and it was clear that customers had a wealth of items to choose from. All the tables had put in a very concerted effort to produce some really professional looking baking goods, and no doubt the high level of baking produced in the BBC’s ‘Great British Bake Off’ was firmly in all the baker’s minds! The day was a success and reaffirmed the importance of the Abbey in the heart of Bath, bringing people together for good causes.
