Sadly, there are now a number of very old pianos that are surplus to requirements and it would no longer be viable for The Piano Shop Bath to fully restore them. The full cost of a piano restoration usually far outweighs the real value of the instrument on completion of all the renovation the work. We often have people asking us if we can now remove these pianos and dispose of them. In the trade on just the weight alone we are charged £40 + VAT just at the disposal depot, who are able to re-cycle the Iron frames and some of the wood. This article also gives some insight into the whole process as many old pianos are now being dumped, abandoned, neglected, smashed – even burnt. Why is this happening, and should we care?
