We have decided to take a closer look at the Kawai K500 upright piano, to give you a bit more insight to a highly regarded model in the K series of upright pianos. Here at the Piano Shop Bath, the Kawai K500 has become a popular choice with our customers. This is in large part due to where it sits in the range, almost in the middle of the available models. It is a larger cabinet piano, so like the K600 and K800 it has longer bass strings which give a richer overall tone, as well as bass notes that are very robust in sound. However being slightly smaller than the aforementioned models, it is not as loud, providing a volume level which suits people who might find the K600 and K800 too powerful.
Piano Action and NEOTEX
The action is extremely quick and responsive to the slightest of touches. You can really feel how good a piano’s action is when you play some music that is very soft in character, and with the K800 nothing is lost. This is most certainly down to the highly acclaimed Millennium III action, fitted as standard to all Kawai pianos in the range. It uses ABS Carbon parts for some of the key mechanics; ABS Carbon is 90% stronger and than wood parts while also being a great deal lighter, and this translates into a quicker response time from key touch. The energy that transfers from your fingertips will be more concentrated and provide greater control.
The keys are also coated in Kawai’s NEOTEX material, which simulates the absorbent properties of Ivory. It is not really noticeable at first, but after half an hour of playing you really notice a subtle amount of control, in part because your fingers are not slipping from sweat.

Soundboard
The soundboard is the heart of any piano, amplifying the strings vibrations into a big, warm sound. The Kawai K500 features a solid spruce soundboard; spruce has long been prized for its acoustic properties and has been used in fine instruments for centuries.
