Boston GP178 Grand Piano Review

We are fortunate to have yet another fine Boston grand piano available in our showroom, the Boston GP178 grand piano. This is the smaller sibling of the Boston GP215 we had in the showroom a few months before, but do not let that deter you. In fact, they are two completely different instruments. While the Boston GP215 was 7 foot in length and produced a huge, chiming sound, this Boston GP178 has a warmer tone, capable of really delicate moments when required.

This Boston grand piano was manufactured fairly recently, in piano terms, in 1996. The action and inner cabinet are immaculate and well looked after. Our technicians have done some careful regulation and tuning work to make this instrument as responsive as possible.

Tone and Touch

The tonal range on this grand piano is very pleasing, with the bass section producing some lovely deep tones when the music requires it. The middle register really come to life with lyrical playing, and soft chords also have a wonderful feathery sound in this register. There is definitely no monochrome details here, as many subtleties can be created from a variety of touches. Finally, the trebles are an additional bonus. Sometimes, it’s hard to find a grand piano that has trebles capable of anything but a, well, trebly sound. But here, it is very easy to get sparkling tones, as well as soft, delicate notes that match the variety you hear in the other registers. For beginners, this piano will of course be a dream to play, while advanced players will really appreciate the depth of tonal variety on offer here.
