For two weeks, venues across Bristol will host events involving thousands of Bristol’s music-making youth. Since the festival coincides with Bristol’s Green Week, the theme of the event is ‘green’.
The festival launches on 16th June with the South Bristol Singing Day. Merchant’s Secondary in south Bristol will see an afternoon dedicated to singing, with performances by Merchant’s Primary, Connaught, Cosmos Choir, Greenfield and St Pius Schools. This event has free admission.
As part of the extensive lineup of events, on 20th June, Colston Hall will see composer and conductor John Rutter feature in the City of Bristol Choir Summer Gala. David Ogden and the choir will be joined by Exultate Singers, Bristol Youth Choir, and Westbury-on-Trym parish choir, as well as professional soloists, and will be accompanied by the Bristol Ensemble for an evening of music to celebrate youth. Rutter will conduct his own piece, Mass of the Children, followed by works by Jonathan Dove and Handel. This concert is in aid of Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal and tickets are available from the Colston Hall box office.
From 22-24th June, Colston Hall, Bristol will host All The Kings Men theatre workshops. Enquiries can be made to firstname.lastname@example.org.
On 24th June, Martin Kiszko, poet-in-residence for Bristol’s 2015 European Green Capital, will perform his comedic stand-up poetry show, alongside Wallace and Gromit creator, Nick Park’s, projected illustrations. This event is open to participating schools and will include a ‘junk percussion’ workshop.
The Sounds Inspiring Festival will draw to a close with the BBC Young Musicians performance on Saturday 27th June at St George’s Bristol. BBC Young Musician of the Year 2014 finalists, Sophie Westbrook (recorders), Eliot Gaston-Ross (percussion) and winner Martin James Bartlett (piano) will perform a showcase of their competition repertoire. Tickets available from St. George’s Bristol box office.
