The Kawai K2 piano is one of the new series of Kawai upright pianos to be fitted with their improved ‘Millennium III’ action. This action was first seen on their top-of-the-line concert grand instruments and has now been redesigned for the K Series uprights. As well as handcrafted wooden parts, the action employs some ‘ABS-Carbon’ components, designed to be stiff but light, making the piano’s touch very fast and responsive without being too light. At the price point of an entry-level Japanese instrument, this piano has the refined, responsive touch usually associated with much higher priced European pianos. Our display model was put through its paces by our tame pianists Ben and Edward, both were thoroughly impressed by the refined, fast-repeating action and the quality of tone.
The tone is typically Kawai – clear and pure, but with a warmth usually associated with high quality British and German instruments. Standing only 45” high, the Kawai K2 piano is small for a traditional upright, but the full, rounded tone, especially in the bass, suggests a much larger, more powerful instrument. This piano is fitted with the Soft Fall System, protecting the piano (and one’s fingers) from the lid slamming shut, and also with a full length music rack, an often overlooked but very useful feature. We like the classic styling of the traditional case, which is available in a full range of finishes (American Walnut pictured) to suit modern or more traditionally furnished rooms. Like every new Kawai acoustic piano, the K2 comes with a ten-year guarantee.
We always have at least one K2 in stock, usually in a Walnut or Mahogany finish, and we are usually able to order in Kawai pianos in the finish of your choice in 2-3 weeks. Check out the K2 at Kawai’s site, or feel free to call or email us with any questions or visit our showroom (open Tuesday to Sunday) and play!
